just want to add that, NONE of the options in recovery work, except mount/unmount sdcard and nandroid backup.
just to name a few, wipe/factory reset doesn't work, nandroid restore doesn't work, etc.
when i press on them, it says complete but nothing has actually happened.

have you ever sorted out the recovery options not working problem on your galaxy? I too have the same problem with my dad's galaxy. I have tried flashing different versions of recovery image and it still won't work, and i ended up flashing it with ODIN like you did.

I myself have a nexus one and have experience in flashing it myself with no trouble.

it leads me to think that the recovery image doesn't work with all galaxies (it is known that samsung has been selling many different revisions of galaxy.
