I have hboot 1.58. Is it possible to change the version without having s-off?

I have hboot 1.58 s-on rooted and on stock. I want to get s-off and I tried the wire trick but when it attempts it, it says "Secondary backup failed!!" Does anyone know how I can get past this and move on to getting s-off?

Can I root my phone with hboot 1.58 by following the same steps to root on 1.5 using the "Newbie's guide to rooting" sticky?

I can't install any roms. I've noticed that everytime I try to install one, it says "md5 file not found, skipping" could that be why? And how do I fix it?

I was on cwm recovery and I was trying to install an update to get cwm touch and it didn't install. It said installation aborted and I tried rebooting and it didn't turn on. I try turning it on and it doesn't turn on. Help? :/

When I back up my rom through clockwork recovery, it says "No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext" So when I restore it skips that step in restoring it because it can't be found. How can I fix this? This causes problems when I try downloading apps in the market. It doesn't let me download...
