One of my first phones was a Nokia 340. Good little brick which I had a while. Snake ftw! 
1st smartphone was an Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade). Managed to drown it in the sea..
Then a couple of Desires: S then One S. Really liked the One S, but it 'dived' into a pond whilst geocaching...
The rice trick worked though 
but I think loose/dodgy charging port spelled the death of that phone. Decided I didn't ever want a phone with a non-removable battery after that! 
Next up, how about a waterproof phone?
I got my Xperia Z1 compact, used, over a year ago (~Oct '15). Strangely enough I haven't tested out its 'waterproofnicity' but the charging port cover, unsurprisingly, has become loose over time, so I don't intend to try!
I LOVE my Xperia
I got my son a used S4 mini a couple of months after getting my Xperia. It was like new and has been great, but it's developed an issue which I'm trying to fix..
Younger son had his dad's old S3 mini which he lost.. so he's using an old Fame; and other half has a Samsung A3 (from new), which seems fine.
Our lads are masters of destruction: DS x 2, PSP x 2, PS2, Galaxy Tab x 2, and a collection of other things have joined the 'tech junk box'
I got youngest a Fire last year, which I protected with tempered glass screen, which I'm sure the Fire was thankful for during a trip down the stairs! 
I peeled off the poor gorilla screen and ordered another, though stupidly let my son use it before the new protector came... Yep, another trip down the stairs! Arrrghh! 
Anyway, the poor, cracked thing still works (maybe it's still worth putting the screen protector on it..?), so I just got another in the black Friday sale for my dad 
The boys are not getting new phones/tablets for some time and will have to make do with what we've got - though Xmas Xbox1 should keep everyone happy for a while.., and I'm getting youngest a Raspberry Pi (he wants a micro:bit, as they use them at school, so I hope a Pi will be better..).
Want to get Dad an xperia Z1c too, as his Fame has given him no end of trouble since he got it (new).

I'm quite happy looking stuff up and trying various troubleshooting/tweaking methods, and don't mind opening things up if there's no other way - from researching/building a PC, to replacing a One S charging port, though I think I gave up when it came to soldering, remembering how awkward it was soldering a DS part once..
I tend to keep all our old tech stuff, as I always want to make sure they're data-free before getting rid, and I always think I might get them working/upgrade them one day...
Anyway, I'll stop waffling now.
