Rooted my Evo last night and it said it was successful. I rooted so that I could use the hotspot without paying sprint & now I still cannot get the hotspot to work. Do I have to install a custom rom in order to get the hotspot working? & How do I know for sure if I rooted correctly?

hi, I recently went from tmobile g1 to the evo and both phones are still under the same gmail account but only the g1 is getting notifications when i receive new emails. Any way I can fix this so that the evo will get the notifications??? My tmobile is connected until the 24th of the month...
