phone locked - help

I have a Samsung 10 e - downloaded an software update this am - when phone started back up asked for a password - I don't have one & feel 99% sure I never set one up. hate having to hit a password every time I use my phone. went to xfinity & they didn't have any way to bypass the password sign in but to factory reset. have only had phone 2 months & will loose lotsa "stuff" this phone will only receive calls nothing more so it's basically useless right now. please tell me there's a way to get around this. thank you in advance.

Is this a lock screen password or something else? If it's the lock screen, how do you normally unlock? Biometrics are less secure (and sensors might fail) so phones generally require a PIN or password to be set up as a backup. So if you are using a biometric that might be the password it's after.

Unfortunately I don't know a bypass. Indeed I would avoid any phone that had one, since if you can bypass a password so can anyone else, which means that any thief would have full access to your data.

Don't reset unless you remember your Google password (you might be surprised to learn how many people don't). When you reset you will activate the "factory reset protection" system, an anti-theft system which will lock you out until you enter the Google login id and password.

honestly not sure - can't get past it to get to any features on my fone - can only receive calls. never had a lock on it. hardly ever use my google acct will have to look up my password. tu

Definitely look it up: things will only get worse if you reset without knowing what it is. Once you find it you could see whether that's the password your phone wants (it is, after all, one password which we know is associated to the device).
