Help Finding deleted files after rooting?

Hi there.
I have lost files of my Oneplus 5 with Android 8.

Does it make sense to root my phone now and then run a recovery tool? Or will there be no chance of finding anything as the phone will be wiped during the root process.

There will be no chance at all if the phone is reset during rooting. This is because the storage is encrypted, and the encryption key won't survive a reset. Hence the data will look like garbage to any recovery tool.

How did you lose those files? What kind of files were they? Do you know where they were located?

You can take a backup of your device and then root your phone. It would be better.

A backup will not include the deleted files (unless it's a full disk image, in which case do you have a way of doing that on a non-rooted phone?).

Have described in a previous thread already. Basically after coming photos over with windows - I deleted 'somehow' all media containing folders in the internal storage. and thats including hidden ones like .ota or .mcs
