The OS for my ZTE Max Z970 needs an update

My metro pcs ZTE max Z970 needs an upgrade. It is starting to delay texts for hours, it is receiving texts that people don't send, some of my apps in the app store won't accept the os on this phone. Is there an update to some this problem?

Considering how old the phone is, unless it's rooted there aren't going to be any updates.

It was manufactured back in 2014, and there's no updates.
The best you can do is a factory reset

There are some custom ROMs you can try, they're Nougat v7.1.. Which is 3 OS's newer than stock KitKat v4.4

Yeah bro. Root that thing and put a ROM on it. Bliss, Resurrection Remix, and the AOKP I just built are all good.

Aokp is best I've seen outta all ROMs to date try root and twrp and aokp that's what I did
