My contacts are being constantly deleted

GMur

Lurker
Maybe it's some nasty setting, but after a lot of time of looking for it, I must ask for your help.

All of my contacts are being deleted immediately after synchronization with Google account, whether automatic or manual. The only way to have them is to turn off Google Play Services permissions for access to Contacts, and then I can restore contacts from a backup .vcf file. But this gives me numerous error messages, so it is rather annoying.

The described process is repeatable - I can turn on those permission and synchronize contacts: they will again disappear and get duplicated on Google account other and other again... Each contact will be every single time multiplied on Google account, so I can have e.g. all of my contacts multiplied by 3, 4, 5 and so on. But zero contacts on the phone...

Please help.

Well at least this is a repeatable problem, a one-off glitchy thing is harder to nail down.
Try resetting the Contacts app on your phone and see if syncing it to your online Google Contacts works the way it should.
-- Disable sync with Contacts in your Settings >> Accounts >> Google menu.
-- Reset the Contacts app by going into your Settings >> Apps >> Contacts app menu, open it and tap on 'Force stop', and then locate 'Clear data' and tap on that. Using Clear data will wipe the app's cache and its settings/configuration files, essentially returning the app to its first time use default.
-- Enable syncing again (make sure you're device is connected to a reliable WiFi or mobile data connection), wait for a minute or so, and then check if the Contacts app is syncing properly wirelessly on its own the way it should.
