Help Audio feedback problem

Evening all,

As you can see this is my first thread so I'll make it a good one. I have an S3 (on O2 UK) and love it, but I think I have discovered a problem. I use it in my car as an mp3 music device. I connect it to the car stereo with a 3.5mm jack lead which plugs into the stereo. If I turn the volume up on the stereo I get feedback!

Very loud feedback! I've tried moving the lead about to see if it is a connection problem but nothing makes any difference. I know its not the car stereo as I have used the same setup with my previous mobile (Sony Ericsson X10), this worked fine, so why isnt the S3 working properly.

I thought it might have something to do with the equalizer settings, but I have tries all of them with the same result.

Any ideas anyone??

Welcome to the forum.

Can you clarify, is it feedback (loud "squelching" noise that loops until you turn it down/off) or distortion (muffled/crackly audio)?


Music playback shouldn't have the mic on, unless you are talking about feedback during a phone call.
 
Hi, yes its loud noises that get louder until you turn it down, the same as if you were standind infront of a speaker with a microphone. It only happens with music playback. I use bluetooth to make calls.

That is bizarre.

I don't have a S3 yet (Verizon stupidity), but just wanted to clarify your particular issue. People oftentimes use incorrect terms, and it makes diagnosis next to impossible.

Two things come to mind...
1: S-Voice might be constantly monitoring the mic for voice commands, so might be somehow getting into the audio stream. If there's a way to disable S-Voice I would try that.
2: Alot of phones have a 4 contact 3.5mm port, that allows for either TRS (tip (Left), ring (Right), sleeve (Ground)) or TRRS (tip (Microphone), ring (Left), ring (Right), and sleeve (Ground)) operation. Your 3.5mm cable may be reaching deep enough to hit the farthest most contact (Mic) and may be shorting out the Mic and Left audio channels. If you pull the connector out slightly from your phone, does the issue persist?

These are just guesses. Hope someone can resolve your issues that actually has the phone.
 
Do you have a car charger plugged in? That happened to me yesterday - when the car charger was plugged in, it made HORRIBLE feedback sounds while the SIII was plugged into the stereo as well, and then it stopped when I took out the car charger.

Additionally, the car charger seems to have blown something in the fuse box/potentially the alternator. So....may want to stick with the crazy expensive one Samsung is selling for the SIII

Wow sucks Samsung is genius. Use anything but the Samsung official chargers or touch wiz sends a signal to your car computer to blow s$&t up.
 
Has anyone got a solution for this? Its getting very annoying now. My car stereo automatically increases the volume as the car gets faster (nice little gimmick) but this is when the volume of the stereo starts to create feedback. Its must be something to do with the mic constantly being on and creating feedback through the phone. I hope its a firmware problem that Android will fix. Im going to email Samsung or Android if I can find a contact address...
 
I hope youve figured this out by now, but if you havent..... Its a setting with your car. It is set up to increase your volume to compensate for the increased road noise of traveling at a higher rate of speed. In my truck it i a setting I can access through the steering wheel menu buttons.
