Accessories Internal/external microphone + external headset?

Hello,

As an alternative to a dedicated audio recorder, I'd like to use an Android smartphone to record interviews.

To check the audio in real time, is there a way to use the internal microphone and an external headset, or even some Y-shaped contraption that includes an external microphone and an external headset connected through the audio jack?

Thank you.

What phone model do you have? Every model has its own, unique hardware configuration inside, so depending on your phone it may or may not be adequate for tasks you're planning to do.
-- Some phones have a headphone jack that's output only, some do support audio in and out.
-- Some phones have microUSB charging ports that are only for power, while a lot of them include USB OTG, allowing them more functionality (like plugging in external USB devices).
-- Some phones have USB Type-C that generally have more expansive features than microUSB, but there's a lot of different, proprietary functionality involved because there are now multiple variations of Type-C. (... the issue being not all phones with USB Type-C are universally able to do the same things.)
-- Another thing to keep in mind is most internal microphones in our phones are mono-only (that's all that's required for voice-only audio), while a typical external microphone with be stereo so just be sure to take that into account for your recordings. And more recent phones may have multiple microphones that have different levels of capabilities. But again, all this depends on the capabilities of your particular phone model.
