Hotspot/tethering problem

Hello
I recently got a new unlocked s8 and I am having problems getting it to connect via hotspot to my laptop... I turn on the hotspot on the phone click connect on my laptop and it seems to link up fine, but then when I open the browser it says no internet connection. I have tried to link the phone to my husband's too and another tablet and the same happens on all. The SIM I used in my old phone and it hotspotted perfectly to everything and I have plenty of data to use 😞😞.I am just wondering is there a setting I am missing or something I need to turn on/off?? I am not very tech savvy 😣😣😣

Hi, let's try the most likely culprit.
Once you're 'connected', on your phone, click the Hotspot/Tether icon, then Manage/Configure your Hotspot:
under Security, does it say Open or WPAxxx.?
AND.....
under Allowed Devices, does it say ALL or something else? If so, what and how many?

Depending on your answers we can then proceed.

You were able to tether from your older phone..then it sounds like in your unlocked S8 the hotspot is still locked..there's certain methods to unlock it..

Thank you both for your replies. In the hotspot configure it is set to WPA and all devices. I have tried my SIM card back in my old phone and the hotspot works perfectly, but my husband who is on a different network to me tried his SIM in my s8 phone and he could hotspot fine 😕 not sure what that means! 😕

I have it sorted out now I hope 😀 someone suggested I delete one of the APN choices I had in settings as it had been charging me or trying to charge me for tethering.. it connects now and I have net access, so hope it's using my data and not charging me more... Thank you for your replies. 😀

We are glad it worked for you!, but at the same time you don't want any surprise wrapped with a nice bow in a big gift bag as a fee..lol..what service provider you use?, in other words, be aware if is Verizon or Sprint..if is another one they are a little lenient..and they just might lock you back in(hopefully not..depends of your usage to it)..let us know what happens at the end of the billing cycle or two more.

Thank you Xavier Black, I am living in Ireland and on a Vodafone network (pay as you go). My usage would he very low and just surfing really, no downloads. Is it something they do to try and stop you using unlocked phones? Or make it difficult!

Carla, I have a GalaxyS8+, just moved to Ireland, and my mine is f****d, so ordered a replacement (had insurance so twasn't too pricey) from America. The replacement was from my old carrier, Verizon, but is now unlocked. The new SIM I have in it is Vodafone and I'm having the same problem connecting my mac to the internet with my phone's hotspot... its CONNECTED to my hotspot, but CANNOT connect to internet. What do I do? What do I set the APN type to?

I fixed it for anyone else that needs to know... attached link is a screenshot of someone else's android that had the same problem, look at what they entered into the APN type and try changing yours to that:
1.Settings
2.>Connections
3.>Mobile networks
4.>Access Point Names
5.>tap your access point name that is activated currently (mine was: "Vodafone Live!")
6.>scroll down to APN type and paste this: default, supl, agps, fota, dun, hipri
