Help Sending screenshots in Facebook Messenger

When I try to send an image to a friend or a group-chat in Facebook Messenger, the only recent images available are camera photos. Screenshots and downloaded photographs are missing. Old screenshots are still available.

I'm not sure if this was caused by an Android update or a Messenger update, but it seems like Messenger is no longer looking in the same folder that screenshots are saved in. Does anyone know how to change where screenshots are saved, or where Messenger looks for photos?

I've tried workarounds like directly uploading files rather than photos, but this does not seem to be possible in the Messenger app. It supposedly works if you try to log into Messenger.com in Chrome... but when I do that, it redirects me to the Messenger app.

I'm running Android 10 on a Pixel 2.

My Messenger on Pie does the same, I use the following trick:

1. While in Messenger window, click on the Camera icon.

2. From the camera app, click the small thumbs window at the left to open the gallery.

3. On top of the gallery you should see a downward arrow, click the arrow to open the list of folders on your phone.

The gallery interface looks like this

Thank you! This is particularly helpful because now I can navigate directly to screenshots, etc.

Edit: Darn, I got excited too soon. When I navigate to "screenshots" using this technique, I only get screenshots from before this problem started, not the most recent ones. But it makes me suspect that the problem is app permissions, and I'm going to try to reset those.

Edit2: The above solution didn't work. But when I navigate to Google Photos using the above steps I do get photos including recent screenshots, even though those screenshots don't show up in the screenshots folder or the camera roll. So, now I have a functioning work-around. Thanks!

Edit3: Using a file editor, I can confirm that new screenshots are being saved in the same folder as the old ones. Facebook's interface even lists the correct number of files in that folder, which increases when I take new screenshots, even as the new files don't show up. This has got to be a bug on Facebook's part.

Yes it may vary from device to device depending on permissions and folders structure. But like you said, Facebook needs to improve the files browsing function on its apps.
