What is the best 16gb android phone that I can custom rom?

170 just about

Ok that's a really hard budget to find phones with your requirement. If you can squeeze $200 then the Motorola G7 Power is a great phone with good specs. It comes with android 9 and is on the list to get android 10.

Motorola lets you unlock the bootloader on most of their phones right from their website.

Here's a good rom for the G7 Power:

Here's the specs. It's a lot of phone for only $200.

What is the max you're willing to pay. That would help narrow down the search.

Just avoid Verizon and Amazon branded, for bootloader unlocking.
Oh yeah, I know SyberHexen too. We talk on TG once in awhile.. He's been in on Moto X4 (payton) too, great guy. I'd recommend his work any day, good choice.

what's the best brand to maybe get?

I want a 16gb android that has custom rom and root before I buy, asking first because not sure which phone is best?

It seems the previous posts did not answer specific in what you asked. You ask for custom rom and root before you buy the phone. I will answer you question but there are a few things I should address beforehand.
First, There is a differents between an carrier unlocked, factory unlocked and bootloader unlocked.

Is your carrier GSM or CDMA? Is you plan Post payed or Pre Paid?

Ok, back to your question in this post. It is my understanding that no OEM manufacturer sell a phone that is pre-rooted with a custom rom. The way I see it is you have two options aside from what I previously mentioned. One, look on Ebay for a complete rooted phone. Second, would be to buy a newer phone and root it yourself.

Ps. Be aware that Ebay sellers will post phone that say in the title "Sprint sm-n910p" but the hardware of the listing states sm-n910v. That means it is a Version phone that was flashed with Sprint firmware. Yes it will work but no your will not have LTE.

Actually his questions were answered. He wanted a phone that he can install a custom rom on. So he was provided a link to a brand new carrier unlocked phone that also allows bootloader unlocking on the manufacturer's website. He even received a link to a solid working rom for the phone.

I wouldn't buy a phone on ebay, there's much better places to get phones like Swappa. Also a Note 5 is old already and may not get android 10. The current android 9 rom for it has bugs.

Perhaps they didn't answer that part because buying a rooted phone from some stranger on the Internet is, in my opinion, an extraordinarily bad thing to do. :o

Who knows what their custom ROM and rooted filesystem might contain? The person who rooted it could have put all sorts of privacy-invading things on the phone, that the clueless user would have no idea about.

It's safer to do it the way outlined in this thread: buy a new phone, then root it yourself (preferably not with a 1-click root app).

I am on the web and not thr app and it possible I miss understood the original question. I quote from what is posted as I see on web "I want a 16gb android that has custom rom and root before I buy,". I interpret that as mean buying a phone with root and custom rom already installed.

It's rare for someone to want to buy a phone with a custom rom already installed. That's a security risk.

Here's the title of the thread which suggests he wants to install the rom himself...
"What is the best 16gb android phone that I can custom rom?"

After talking to him in the thread he never suggested he wanted a rom pre-installed. Hope this clears things up.

I see your point, I guess I thought that

"I want a 16gb android that has custom rom and root before I buy"

I view that as a very statement that suggests pre-installed. Hope that clears it up for you as well.
