IP question

I have a new phone out the box 2 days and i ran IP blacklist checker and it was on 2 blacklists already, not had time to send anything out

my old cheap phone which I use for every site isn't on any

I thought a new phone with old sim is a new IP address?
I was told phone shouldnt have a static IP on phone network but never changes for me

why is it on barracuda blacklist already and my old 3 year old phone not?

Is it the sim or the phone which creates the IP address?
 
Just to clear up some misconceptions:
-- Your SIM card contains info on your account with your cellular carrier service, it does not have any IMEI or IP address.
-- A phone's IP address is more of a temporary identifier. When your phone is connecting to a WiFi or a cellular connection it gets assigned an available IP address as a temporary, unique identifier.
-- Your phone's IMEI is more of a fixed identifier. It's a unique string that gets burned into a read-only chip on the motherboard.

From what you've described, you're using a IMEI checking site and the 'new' phone you purchased is more likely to be a pre-owned and possibly stolen phone.
Contact the seller of the phone tell them what's going on, hopefully you can get a replacement that is new or refunded. Document your findings, if you have to go through any kind of legal process.

I checked it on IP address sites too and got blacklisted
I got the phone brand new from a company not an individual and it was still sealed so not sure it could be pre owned or stolen

my phone and my sim data are from 2 separate companies, when I have googled the IP it tells me the phone company giving the data is blacklisted

could it be the phone is okay but the data is causing this/

Neither, the IP address is allocated dynamically by your carrier, or ISP if using WiFi.

Sure you're not confusing your phone's IMEI, MEID, or ESN with IP address? IMEIs, etc. can be blacklisted by carriers, and the phone will have no service at all, probably showing "Emergency Calls Only".

FYI IP addresses can be banned, but you'll usually know that when certain websites show a "403 Forbidden" or "Access Denied" error, which can appear similar to "404 Not Found"

I just ran those for "116.113.33.186", which is actually the current IP address for the Jinjiang Hotel, in Hohhot, China, where I'm currently staying, and it did come up as banned for quite a few, including barracuda.

FWIW IP addresses from China are often banned by sites anyway. Every computer, phone, tablet, etc. that's connected to the hotel WiFi will appear to have this IP address, I could switch to a different IP address just by using mobile data instead, or using my VPN(which can give me an IP address that's not in China)

Tesco are the biggest supermarket chain in the UK. So yeah, not some back street fly-by-night outfit.

As Mike has said, a phone doesn't have a fixed IP address, it will change whenever you change WiFi network or whenever you reconnect to your cellular provider (probably more often than that). So it's unlikely that anything if blacklisting your phone specifically.

Not being in the UK, I'm unfamiliar with most of the businesses there, but I've definitely heard of Tesco--when it comes to supermarkets. So Tesco Mobile is not some questionable outfit.

The OP has indicated that his IP address never changes, hence my question about connecting to his router. Maybe...MAYBE...he's one of the few home customers who specifically asks for, and pays extra for, a static IP address from their ISP. I really can't come up with any other way to explain:

But...does he never leave his house? :thinking:
 
i asked my friend who is on the same network to check and his IP isnt on any lists at all.

I rebooted my phone and got a different IP but still on the lists

my wifi isnt on any lists

I tried calling my data provider but they are beyond moronic and claimed its not on any lists as it changes all the time, I told them everytime it changes its still on the lists but they pleaded ignorance
 
I got the phone from a different company to my data
I called the company who i get my calls and data from and they said its the phone IP so I need to call where I got the phone from, is that true?

whenever I run my IP address it tells me the ip is the company that sells me the internet data not the company where I brought the phone from
 
The IP address is always assigned by the Internet provider. That's true whether it's WiFi or cellular. If you are on your home WiFi network you will have a local IP address on that network, which is different from your router's IP address (and a website you visit should see the router's address rather than your phone's address within your home network).

It's possible that person you spoke to was confused between your IP address and your phone's MAC address (which is an identifier for the hardware device on whatever network you connect to). It's also possible that they just said something to fob you off - sadly this is not uncommon (either deliberately or because they don't like saying "I don't know").
