What happened to the 3D globe version of Google Maps?

I remember using Google Maps in a web browser in my cheap NUC, Google Maps was in full 3D! That is, if you zoom out, it turned the maps into a globe. Go into Satellite view and you have the 3D Satellite view from Google Maps before. It was sluggish in my cheap NUC, of course, so I switched over to Lite mode, which brought me back to a flat, 2D Google Maps, albeit with less features. The Lite mode also has a flat, 2D Satellite view.

Now, I go back to Google Maps in my browser, and the Lite mode is the same, but the Full mode is back to what it was before: a flat, 2D Google Maps with all of its features. The 3D Google Maps in Full mode was pretty neat.

What happened? If the 3D Google Maps mode is still there, how do I enable it?

If you are accessing Maps via your device, the only way to see "3D" would be to use 2 fingers and drag down on the screen.
Not sure on the globe thing though.

3d mode on the computer would be in satellite mode and click on the 3D button:

My 3D button isn't there anymore. I know about google earth, but its nice to use the simple map and see 3D quickly

The 3D option in Google Maps disappeared about 6-8 weeks ago.
The 3D app was awesome, like having a helicopter that could view earth from any angle or height, anywhere.
I used it all the time to visit new places, together with street view. Great way to travel!

Okay from my observation when I go into settings in Google map and click satellite mode I come up with the images that you presented in your illustration, is it that you haven't tried satellite mode in your device settings?

View buildings in 3D
  1. Open Google Earth Pro.
  2. In the left panel, select Layers.
  3. Next to "Primary Database," click Right Arrow .
  4. Next to "3D Buildings," click Right Arrow .
  5. Uncheck any image options you don't want to see.
  6. Go to a place on the map.
  7. Zoom in until you see buildings in 3D.
  8. Explore the area around you.

I'm thinking he's talking about Google Maps on Android devices I know that that option works on PC. There is no Google Earth Pro on Android devices.

Guys,
https://www.google.com/maps : satellite view , there is no 3d view option
But if you choose another country specific domain, like
https://www.google.co.in/maps OR https://www.google.de/maps AND switch to satellite view, you will get 3d view option

It's been about 5-months since your post and we are still experiencing this issue. .com Google Maps still doesn't work in Chrome... only in Edge or Firefox. Yet the .de (German) Google Maps works just fine.

Not sure what's going on with Google... and I'm surprised they haven't addressed this issue.
