Fingerprint scanner

For as long as I've had my phone, I've just used a pattern unlock. Well, today I tried to set up the fingerprint unlock.
Went through all the steps and the phone indicated that it had saved the print, but when I tried to unlock the phone the pattern unlock comes up with a message that says "Unable to use fingerprints. Draw pattern."

Anyone have an idea.
 
Here is my page of security settings. I have only set up a pattern and fingerprint. I use fingerprint all the time and the pattern as an occasional extra security that the phone determines. When I've had problems, it stemmed from a dirty fingerprint sensor. I clean mine occasionally with tape. (I read that somewhere) I use clear tape and press it on the sensor three or four times. You'd be surprised what it picks up. Good luck.

Tried once again this morning and had the same reaction. Don't believe it's the phone though. Could be the case preventing close contact. The wife says my hands are too big. IDK...

My settings look exactly the same as yours Mark.

It's not a big deal. I was just experimenting yesterday.

Sorry you can't figure it out. I use a case too and the opening is much larger than the sensor. Did you still have the problem when you removed the case? Did you clear both, the Pattern Unlock and the Fingerprint then start from scratch adding back the Fingerprint first? To see if its your sensor, have you tried using your fingerprint to sign into your banking app? (or similar) That should tell you where the problem is.

Actually, I'm not gonna worry about it, Mark. I was just trying to see if I could get into my phone a bit quicker...2 knocks, swipe, draw pattern.
