anyone on att network have correct apn settings pixel 4 update 10-25-2019

when I inserted sim card from my nexus 6p into pixel 4 and after setting up the mobile connection was showing 5Ge but after having at&t support sync the old nexus 6p sim card to the pixel 4 well both the nxtgen etc settings and another saying att wap what the heck is that? anyways both are greyed out cannot change them and the nxt gen one will not connect to at&t mobile network now only the att wap network works and shows only 4g connection.

I am used to my nexus 6p not getting at&t full 4g lte network as at that time a crazy thing oh its unlocked so even though you pay same as carrier locked phones for a data plan you are not allowed to use the full lte network whattttttttt.
so seeing prior to sim card sync it was on there so called 5 g network I would think now the unlocked google pixel 4 phone is allowed to use 5g network.

so those of you that have one and on att can you tell me the correct apn settings as I can create a new apn I just cannot delete or edit the current ones or did the support tech lock me out and a trip to at&t store for a new sim card is needed?
Thanks for any help on this and I tried searching online and only get the apn that's greyed out on phone now and it flat refuses to connect using those apn settings.

Being your 6p is so old, I would go for a new SIM. It should be quick (free) and painless. I've had SIM cards just stop working on occasion, so not surprised to hear this.
 
AT&T's "5Ge" label is misleading:

That's not really 5G, it's just another label they sometimes apply to their existing 4G network. (Which is fine - the Pixel 4 doesn't support 5G anyway.)

I know Verizon can inhibit the ability of users to edit/create/manage APNs, and I assume that AT&T may be doing the same. At the end of the day, if your data is working quickly and reliably then you're in good shape. No need to worry about what label appears in the status bar. ;)

Edit: but yes, I agree with @NightAngel79 that a new SIM may be a quick-and-easy fix for whatever oddities you may be seeing.
 
I am thinking a trip to AT&T is in order for a new sim card. I know 5g at&t isn't real its just after I did swap the sim card it was there so that tells me it is available for unlocked phones otherwise would it not recognize this isn't a carrier pixel 4?
I still have my wifes pixel to sim swap am seriously thinking on doing that and after setup check the current apn settings and add to mine all it costs is my time!
 
one more question why is sim card having to face with copper contact side up instead of face down? its the only way the notch will allow it to set in tray
 
Presumably the notch is there for just that reason - to enforce the correct orientation. This also means that the tray can actually have a bottom, which makes it a bit easier to get the SIM seated properly. I sometimes struggled with the more "open" tray on the 6P.
 
thanks codesplice it didn't hit me until your post that the sim tray is not open so that the contact side had to be up for it to work duh!! do you happen to understand the feature of online sim card and how that works for those of us less tech savy?
 
for whatever reason I tried a few online apn settings and even though I select that apn after saving it the apn keeps defaulting to that att wap apn strange how it just does it on its own!
 
since I first posted this am still unable to get the glorified att 5e mobile network with there apn settings to work! I went to att store they replaced sim card no help wants to only connect to att wap the att nextgenphone is not having any part of using mobile network to surf the internet yet it allows me to send rec texts and phone calls! att had there pro tech call me he said we can fix it well he basically left me hanging with we will send a update overnight well same old issue today.
so seeing out of the box this phone did in fact hookup to att 5ge until about 6 hrs later it stopped only 4g connection now so am I fighting a corrupted software? or a possible hardware failure? I uninstalled all updates one by one it did not clear this issue. I have reset the wi-fi mobile in the system/reset feature to no avail. my next step is call google support and my last resort just return it for another one and if it fails a refund and have battery replaced in nexus 6p and mossy on down the road. so if any of you smarter than me in modern tech has any ideas i'd be glad to try them.
 
Honestly I wouldn't worry about the label as long as you're getting decent data speeds. You can check at Settings > About phone > SIM status to confirm the Mobile data network type. If it shows LTE, you're good to go - and that's the best connection you can get on the Pixel 4, regardless of AT&T's silly 5ge branding attempts.
 
well imagine that I took wifes sim card from same model pixel 4 phone and put into my pixel 4 phone and walla up comes the 5ge mobile data and I am now connected to the Nextgenphone APN! so at least I confirmed not a google issue either software or hardware. and if I put my sim card into her phone bam back to slow poke att wap 4g speeds so this issue follows the sim card!
so you smarter than me tech folks explain this to an old fart because I do not understand why this is happening. or is it because her old phone and sim card is from an at&t carrier phone?

so if you bring a unlocked phone is at&t still blocking them from there top of the line mobile network? as I asked the at&t store folks and they are saying no longer doing that or are they speaking half truths to get me out the door? but then it makes no sense as out of the box using the old unlocked phones sim card it connected to the 5ge mobile network so you can see my confusion here I pay same price to use att services as if its a at&t carrier phone or am I living in a fairytale world?
I did contact AT&T advanced tech support they did refreshes and whatever and on there end he said they keep getting an error message but he was not able or willing to share what the error was. said they are sending to a higher level and I should get a call back 24-48 hrs on how to proceed to fix or? this issue so will impatiently wait over weekend.

well after 4 attempts on 4 different days on at&t chat a support person finally acknowledged that my pixel 4 not being a carrier phone is locked out of what they call 5ge mobile data and is in fact only able to get HSPA this is confirmed by going to about phone and clicking on sim status. now the other pixel 4 is on the 5ge mobile data due in part that its sim card came from a at&t carrier phone that the pixel 4 replaced so not sure if they will latch on that this is a google unlocked device and in fact is a BYOD phone. hopefully they stay in the dark as there is a huge speed difference between the 2 phones using mobile data to surf the web
 
well now after 3 weeks umpteen trips to att store calls to pro help and att support I have achieved success in connecting to the nextgenphone apn ! after 4 yes 4 new sim cards all degrading apn to hspa+ I happened to get a smart female support person at att and she fixed whatever was wrong as she said turn phone off and then reboot it and poof there was the not real 5ge apn mobile data connection. now mind you my wife has same pixel 4 and same time I swapped my sim card and hers has been hooked to the correct apn with faster mobile data speed ironic isn't it!
the att wap apn if I sent a text to her phone it would alert text sound while mine still showed it was sending that text!
and according to 3 att store agents and support persons they are not blocking byod devices to the slower apn speeds I wonder if its because they now sell the pixel phones at att stores? unfortunately from short time I played with a att carrier pixel 4 it showed signs they messed up the no nonsense android approach added more pages to finally access the apn settings page sheesh!
 
They most likely didn't have your SIM/account provisioned properly. The "techs" at AT&T in my experience aren't running current firmware. ;)
