A few questions about my new phone

My service is via Metro PCS > by T-Mobile. This is a Samsung Galaxy J2 model SM-J260T1. I don't know if it is a 2018, a core or a pure. I also can't find the slider switch to let unknowen app's to be installed. I looked in settings > security, where I have found it before in other phones that I have had. Also can this phone be rooted? There is a few ham radio app's that I would like to use that need the phone to be rooted.

What android version is it running? These things have changed in the last couple of versions, so in my Pixel it's in Settings, Apps & Notifications, Special App Access, and installing from outside the Play Store is no longer something that is either allowed or not but something you allow specific apps to do. Of course I don't know what Samsung do, as they generally change all of the settings anyway.
Have you tried just doing it and seeing whether it ask whether you want to give that permission?

Otherwise I'd try developer options if you can't see it elsewhere (you have to tap repeatedly on the build number in the software information to unhide the developer options menu). Or does this phone have a search option for its settings? That would be another way to find it.

The android version is 8.1.0, the Samsung Experience version is 9.5.
I did finely found the build line and taped it 7 times and I got developer options working but I still can't find slider switch to let unknowen app's to be installed.
Also in the pull down bar in the top the phone says ""Google Play Store is using the battery" even when the phone is plugged in. What gives on that?

On my Moto running Android 8.0.0, it's exactly as @Hadron said:

"...it's in Settings, Apps & Notifications, Special App Access..."

Then look for 'Install unknown apps' and select it; that will bring up a list of apps, and you can decide which to allow installing unknown apps.

If you're not seeing any of this, it must be a Samsung thing. Maybe someone familiar with Samsungs can help.

If you haven't been able to find it..instead trying to find it..go to the "unknown" app you are trying to install..then go ahead like you will try to install..at that point your phone should prompt you where you are supposedly switch the slider button..

I hope this helped..OR like the guys here suggested..if you go to the search bar and you start typing the words..it should populate
