Notification badges not showing

I just got my new Note 10plus yesterday and love it. However, I cannot get notification badges with number count to show up for any app.

I have checked several times to make sure the option is turned on in Settings. I should also note that I am using the Nova launcher and have them turned on there - although they didn't show up before I enabled Nova either.

There was a system upgrade this morning which I allowed. The badge problem was there before and after the upgrade.

carrier?
are you new to android?
are you on the samsung beta UI? if you dont know know what this is then you most likely are not.
what was your previous phone?
did you use a backup tool to put your old data on your new phone?
so you use nova. did you use the stock launcher first? if so were you able to get notifications? if not try the stock launcher.
have you ever used nova launcher before?

along with nova and ive not ever had any issues. ive always used teslaunread with nova (And ive been using nova for years) so read the permissions it asks for and then give it a try.

since android have sooooo much customization, its difficult to offer help for this over the internet. but i would fist use the stock launcher then test to see if notifications work, then reinstall nova and setup your permissions with nova.

If you are using Nova then the system settings (which will be for the Samsung launcher in reality) shouldn't matter.

You say you can't get badges "with number count" to show up. Does this mean that you can get non-numerical badges to show? If so, which option are you using within Nova? The "numerical dots" uses android's built-in system, which is based on counting notifications: if you swipe the notification away, the dot/number will disappear even if you've not read the message. Is it possible that's your problem?

If you want better badges, there's a legacy add-on for Nova launcher called TeslaUnread. This is no longer in the Play Store, but can be found in apkmirror.com and still works fine. This will provide actual unread counts for many apps, rather than relying on notifications still cluttering your screen. I don't know why it was withdrawn, probably just because there is now a built-in system, but as if often the case the built-in one is inferior to the third-party solution. In any case, that's what I use and have no problems (apart from the Google phone app, where missed call counts don't disappear unless I toggle the setting for that app off and on, but that's better than having no counts for everything else if I swipe away the clutter of notifications).

I've been an Android user for a long time.
Last phone was Moto Z and used Nova launcher. Originally used Tesla Unread because it was necessary to get the number badges, but then it was no longer needed.
I first used the stock launcher and did not receive the badges. I then enabled Nova and still not showing.

The badges do show up for missed phone calls and voicemail, but those seem to be the only ones. I'm not getting them for Facebook or Outlook email.

I've checked every setting including the notifications settings for individual apps. Maybe I'm opening the apps to check them too soon and I need to wait a bit.

there's still some unanswered questions I asked. like, are you on any beta firmware (I am). did you use any backup software? was the moto Z your last phone prior to this one. did you purchase the note 10 new? what carrier?

i dont use crackbook aka facebook ,, but I use Outlook and I have no issue with notifications in nova.

if you used the stock launcher and you did not see the notifications, you are missing a step either on nova or the app itself.

again its going to be hit or miss help over the internet since we cant see your phone but showing photos of your notification settings will be helpful.

No, I am not on Beta firmware. I am using the system as purchased, with a security push update. Android 9.
I did not back up this phone.
Yes, Moto Z was the last phone used.
The Note 10+ is new, Verizon.

I still have Tesla Unread, which had transferred from the Moto Z. This morning I went in and selected the apps to receive notifications in Tesla Unread and selected Tesla Unread badges in Nova. I was happy to see the badges showing up on the apps until I started receiving messages that Tesla Unread had stopped. So I I'm afraid to use that.

I do get badges for MySMS (text message app), as well as for the phone and voicemail, which are the most important really. I think I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the Facebook app and see whether that resets it. I've been tweaking the settings so much I've probably turned something off.
