I AM LEGALLY BLIND NEED HELP WITH TEXT SIZE

About a few weeks ago my size on my text messages back to small and no matter what I do I can't enlarge it again.

I went into accessibility settings and changed everything to huge and even tried the screen pinching things and volume button and nothing works.

My texts are unreadable to me.

I feel this is a glitch due to an update.

If you've had a recent update, that might be likely. Have you tried clearing the cache for the message app you're using in settings? Or perhaps try another app for messages.

Have you tried the settings within the message app itself?

If nothing else works, try installing a different message app and changing font size in that.

I've never heard of this problem, but I don't know what device you have or what app you are using.

Thanks guys. I am using an LG stylo 3. So far I've never had a problem.

I cleared the cache. No luck so far. I can try a different app but it seems a bit frustrating.

Sad to hear that hasn't helped. I've been using Mood Messenger for some time now. I've noticed options that are only now being considered for the stock Android message app. Might be worth looking at the option of using something different.

Hmm. It seems i am able to enlarge the font but only with dark mode off. If i switch it on it makes the text small again.

I guess it's just something that needs to be patched.

Interesting find. That does indeed sound like a bug. Unfortunately if you are using LG's default app it's an LG bug (unfortunate as LG are not famous for being good at updates).

There's not general Android incompatibility between dark mode and large fonts: I tested on my phone, which is running Android 10, December patch, and Google's message app scaled the text up when in dark mode, as did Textra and Pulse SMS apps. My usual default SMS app, Chomp, uses the font size I specify in its settings and ignores the system font setting for message text (but that also means I can set the font size to whatever I like within the app).

As I mentioned above, Google's own Messages app, Textra and Pulse all scale their message font sizes when I alter the system size via the accessibility settings. Chomp SMS lets you specify the message font size via it's "theme" customisation.

Those are the ones I currently have installed on my phone: Messages came with the phone, I'm using Chomp currently, the others I've either used previously (Textra, which is good on under-powered devices) or have been testing but will probably remove at some point (Pulse, which is a perfectly good app, just for me doesn't add anything the others don't have).

I've been using Mood Messenger for a while now. It allows for font size customization within the app as well as within each conversation.
