Need an audio recorder app...

Hi All,

Looking for an audio recorder app for long runs that will skip silence and only record on sound in order to save on file size. Any suggestions?

TIA!

Russ

Yeah, this is a great idea if it doesn't already exist! Seems like a good sub-feature of a general recorder app.

Edit: I suspect most modern compression formats (e.g. FLAC, MP3, AAC) compress the silence quite well, so file size isn't a huge issue. However, it would be quite convenient on the ear -- no need to wait for the silence to elapse. Perhaps a "skip silence" player feature.

There is an app I use, called Audio Recorder.

It is on F-Droid.

Look for the round, white icon with a black microphone on it.

It has the skip silence setting you desire.

Thanks, I found it on Playstore and it does indeed have silence skip. Can't wait to try it out...

Made me look, I'd never heard of F-Droid. They seem legit, but I'll prolly never install something outside of the Playstore simply because they are guaranteed to check all apps for malware. I don't know enough about F-Droid yet to trust it...

Google is the largest purveyor of junk apps on the internet.

Just look at all the bullcrap cleaners, boosters, battery savers, memory expanders, virus protection, illegal copies of FOSS apps, and other worthless junk that they provide.

Google has endless problems with spyware and malware on their apps.

Just look it up.
Millions are affected.

F-Droid?
Not one.
At least none that I ever heard about.

Take your pick.

Not exactly. I haven't used it yet, because there's no apparent way to account for ambient background noise and we have 3 fans running at night. This is for our "sleep" time as the wife has these really bizarre, screaming, yodeling nightmares that she never remembers. All it does it bounce me out of bed with a heart rate of 200+ from which I never get back to sleep. I may try it, but I'm thinking it'll be out of recording room after an hour...

F-Droid.

With the audio quality controls, you can get more than 24hrs recording time out of a couple GB.
