Android 10 update - extra keyboard button

Got the update last night and now there is an extra button/row at the bottom of my keyboard (no matter which keyboard I choose to use). It takes up a lot of space and is not needed, but I cannot figure out how to remove it. Anyone know how to remove it?

Can you post a screenshot? I've been on Android 10 for several months and it made no difference to my keyboards, but without knowing what it is you are seeing it's hard to say very much.

The button and bar along the bottom.

A button to lower the keyboard. That appears as part of standard Android navigation bar, and did in Android 9 as well. It's not actually part of the keyboard.

So the interesting thing here is that you don't have the rest of the nav bar. I guess it's a Samsung thing to hide it, but it seems strange to hide the navigation elements but leave the bar with just this button. I suspect it's a foul up: taking Samsung's elements and Google's and combining them badly (but I note that it doesn't have the keyboard selector button, which I'd also expect to appear on that bar, so I don't know what they are doing here).

Have you tried changing navigation button/gesture options? I'm being wildly optimistic here but hoping that this is the result of old setting and new software, so changing the navigation option and then changing back might fix something.

Otherwise I'm afraid we'll have to wait and see whether other Samsung owners have something they can add, since this looks like a poor mixing of Samsung ideas and standard Android.

To show what standard Android 10 looks like I've attached screenshots with the gesture navigation option on a Pixel: the "lower keyboard" and "keyboard selector" buttons also appear with the 2-button and 3-button navigation but I've not been able to produce a screenshot showing that as the keyboard is hidden when I try to take a screenshot...

Yes!! In navigation settings was an option to hide keyboard. *If* this option was there previously, I had it turned off. Or, it's a new option in these settings. All I know is that I never had that button/bar before the update. Many, thanks.

Since the back button or gesture hides the keyboard a separate button for that is rather redundant.

I wish Google gave me the option (but Google, despite their record of poor design decisions, always think they know best).
