Yep im back inquiring more help and I hope I got the right area for this question. Downloader an app off play store and got slammed by Air pusher adds (something like that. Did Another factory reset and seems clear somewhat. Informed try f-droid for apps.but it's as confusing as reddit app (I hate). Any help explaining how to navigate/understand how to download apps from F-Droid?

I find the search button the best way to find things in F-Droid. Once you have found an app there are download and install buttons (a 2-step process). You'll have to give F-droid permission to install apps, method may depend on the android version.

I'd take a completely different approach.

Just because one app from Play was bad, that doesn't equate to having to drop the Play Store like a hot potato! Hundreds of millions of apps from Play are used every day without issue.

What I'd have done in your situation is:

- remove the offending app
- write a review on its Play page informing others of what it did
- report it to Google
- stay away from the app developer's other apps!

"?"-droid...too much noise and not enough info. I was taught to never install anything NOT from Play Store. So, where does one get educated on all things NOT GPS? Does this stuff work with non-rooted phones? No nag screens from not going thru GPS?

Russ

F-droid is alternative app store for FOSS apps. Which means that you can check the source code of the app if you wish.

And like the play store, most of the stuff there does not require root.

You make a good point. It is wise not to download from unknown sources (third party). That is the best policy, however some of use like myself choose to venture outside the PS and download from reputable sites like APKmirror, G-droid,F-droid, XDA..... I'm rooted but the alternative app stores don't require root.
