Make Android Use SD Card

Hi folks.

How can I get Google podcasts and other apps to use my installed SD card?

My built in storage is 50% operating systems and 50% apps (roughly). I see in settings that some apps allow us to use the SD card. But not all of them.

Also, how can I replicate where pictures, etc are saved? If I takea pic, the phone just saves it ...somewhere. How do I set that to my SD card.

The answer is "in the apps' settings". Unfortunately if the app doesn't have such a setting (Google are amongst the worst for not offering basic options) there's not much you can do, since the path to its storage location is probably hard-coded in the app.

Camera apps are a case in point. Most phones I've used have a setting in the camera app that lets you specify where you store the pictures, but the Google one on my Pixel, no, nothing like that: you are supposed to accept Google's choices and not worry your little head about such things. You can easily find where the pictures are stored (use a file browser, or open one in the gallery app and look at its info/properties and you'll see where it's stored), but if I want to store them elsewhere I must either move them myself using a file browser or use a different camera app. Of course a Pixel doesn't have an sd card anyway, so it doesn't matter much for me, but it will depend on what camera app you use whether you have the option or not.

If I wanted to not worry my *cough* pretty *cough* little head off, I would have gotten a controlling iPhone. Who the heck hard codes anything nowadays? How do they make software for different languages? (Hint: By putting the displayed text in a reference and looking up the correct phrase for the user's language). WTAF?!? (My storage is nearly full so I'm kinda PO'd about this -- can you tell?)

You're right, I also don't know where the pics go. The picture app doesn't tell me the file location. Sure, they might go to Pictures, or they might go to the Pictures directory on my SD card, which some other app has created. (Arrrrrrrgh).

Anyway, thanks for the reply. It's what I thought, but I needed confirmation.

View a picture in your gallery, select the picture and use the menu to find its properties (or details, or info, depending on the app). That will tell you where it is being stored, even if it doesn't give you control of that.
