Help Can I unlock my phone for free?

Rather than try any of the shady YouTube videos and websites, I figured I'd just ask here.

Specifically, if I buy a phone that uses the T-Mobile network, but the phone is locked to Simple Mobile, can I unlock it somehow to use with my T-Mobile plan? I already have the sim card in my old phone, I would just want to use it in the new phone.

TIA.

I'm not American, so have no direct experience of your system, but my understanding as a long-term spectator is that in general the service provider is supposed to unlock the phone on request after a period of time. But that's on request from the contract holder, so if you are not the original owner I don't know whether they'll do that for you.

The availability of unofficial unlocks will likely depend on which phone it is. As you say, proceed with due caution.

To my experience in my new Note4..six months ago when I tried to unlock it those tmobile mother ******..I'm telling you..they won't work with you(even if it's already establish you didn't steal the phone and it was sold to you in a legitimate transaction..even if you bring the person which the phone was bought under..it happened to me) the reason why..they all just care to sell sell and sell and more sell..but since you aren't buying..they'll dismiss you really quick and broach you off..

The only alternative I had was get it unlocked..best twenty bucks ever spent!!!

But you can try..it won't hurt you.

..but let me correct my self in here..you mentioned you want to use it with tmobile and it's a simple mobile phone..I think you are still looking at the same outcome..

First make sure phone will work on T-mobile network which is GSM technology.

Second work with current provider to unlock phone/device so you can take device to other service.

This is free, unless device is not paid-off.

Your cost should only be the T-mobile Sim card and setting up device/account with them.
