Hello,

I'm not sure if there is a better category to ask this question but I hope I'm at right place.

So, my firm is in initial stage of planning a closed LTE network for a customer. The network will not be connected ever to the internet. All the data sent and received will be local to the network.

My question is regarding the over-the-air updates that we get from the mobile phone manufacturers. How exactly do they send the updates to the phones? What kind of hardware is present at the server to do this OTA function?
If I buy a commercial phone, is there a way that I can get the latest patch issued by the phone manufacturer and push it to all the mobile phones in my network?

Is your firm actually a cellular service company? This sounds like a really involved project that will involve a lot of money and resources to set up a closed LTE network. Even if it's just a local-only service (within one building or square mile of public space, a LTE network is still going to involve a lot of approval by government agencies. Where are you located? Instead of asking a non-affiliated help forum like this consisting of volunteer participation, you really need to interact directly with the legal department of your company (there are going to be a lot of licensing and fees involved), along with a development team on how extensive the resulting LTE network will be.

If however you are referring to a closed, isolated WiFi network instead by mistake, that's a completely different and much, much less complicated matter.

Hi, my firm is not a cellular company. But, we work with cellular companies to provide turnkey solutions for the customer. We had established a closed CDMA network which needs to be overhauled to LTE.

The requirement of pushing the software patches is new for us and of course professionally our partner firms will provide a solution.
I asked the question just for my understanding of how it is supposed to work.

Thank you very much for your reply

Perhaps a more practical solution to look into is implementing a MDM solution (Mobile Device Management):

That way your company can just use an existing cellular service while still maintaining highly-curated control over the staff's phones.
Hi, thanks for pointing me in this direction.
The requirement is specifically for a network which is not connected to any outside network. But i will read about MDM. Thanks again
