What's the link icon notification?

Well if it's next to the WiFi icon it's probably a system notification. Manufacturers (and service providers) do modify some of these, so the phone's manual is probably a good place to start: you should be able to find that online (we don't know what phone you have).

It's not one I've seen in 12 years of using android, but as I say these can vary between phones.

Looks sort of like a USB-C port. I wonder is it has something to do with a USB connection.
