how to open torrent file?

I have a torrent file, it is a movie that I wanted to be downloaded but when I click the torrent file it isn't opening in torrent app. It says 'no app can perform this action'.

How can I download that?

Using torrents are not necessarily 'pirating', nor is it 'illegal' to do so. When it involves copyrighted media content, that is a serious problem but it's important to separate established, actual law from personal opinions. When it involves things like ISO files for Linux distros (typically distributed under various Open Source licenses), or otherwise sizable files that involve mass distribution, as a lot of universities rely upon to distribute research data, it's not pirating, nor is it illegal to do so. (..... note that 'legal' involves actual laws and court actions, not just things that one considers to be questionable). Leo Laporte's TWIT podcast network (primarily tech focused podcast shows, under Creative Commons licensing) at one time relied on torrents as its primary way to deliver content to its audience.

Getting back to the OP's query however, as it specifically refers to a movie file than there's a question about if it is a copyrighted file, or if it's a Creative Commons matter, or some movie file that falls into that 'public domain' category (often expired copyright content)

Not all torrents are illegal, e.g. Creative Commons media, public domain, Linux distros, etc. But for reference, it might be useful to know if torrents can be downloaded with an Android device, and what apps could be used. I do sometimes download torrents myself for my job, and I use a Macbook with Transmission.

Yes they can be downloaded by an Android phone. I won't say what to use to do it though, because as stated more often than not torrents are for illegal content. If you must know simply think what the most common refered apps for Pc to download torrents and do a google search.
