How to transfer apps AND DATA to new tablet

Tony Me

Newbie
How can I transfer my apps AND DATA to a new Samsung Tab S?

I have tried smartswitch and through google and neither restored the APP DATA.

I tried helium again and it still does not work and has not worked for years

Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Heluim did work for me for transferring data to a Pixel 2 6 months ago, so from an 2013 device running 5.0.2 to a 2017 one running 8.0. Maybe if you tell us what you did and what problems you encountered someone will be able to help with that.

For Google it's not just a matter of signing in to the same account, since this is a different device. There's a step-by-step at AndroidCentral, maybe see whether that includes anything you didn't do.

I've never used Smart Switch, though I thought that transferring data was something it was supposed to do.

Sorry for not providing more detail.

Over the past year since I purchased helium I have tried it on all of my android devices and at first it worked.
At some point it stopped working on all devices and would not backup to any location.

I tried backup local storage, sd card, dropbox, google drive and to other devices. Nothing works.

I just get a generic error like "helium encountered and error. a copy of the error has been sent to clockwork mod"
I have tried for over a year to get an answer from them and they never reply

I just purchased a new Samsung Galaxy Tab S and wanted to transfer my apps and data. But all I get with helium is the error message above.

Smart switch is from Samsung and it says that it is supposed to transfer from one device to another, such as when you buy a new phone or tablet. However, it transferred the apps but no data was transferred.
Maybe it only works with some apps, not sure. But I do know what any of the apps I tried it with, the data never transferred

Hmm, yeah, that's not a very helpful error message. Funny it works on my devices (or did when I last used it in October). I've not used it with a Samsung though.

True and so much for it sending a copy of the error to clockworkmod as they haven't replied updated the app in years.

Regardless, the issue is not app specific as it occurs with any app, whether full app or just data is selected.

Also, it is not Samsung specific. I bought the app when I had an LG phone and it only worked at first. Since then is has not worked on an LG, Samsung, RCA of Nextbook.

Of course this could be the list of phone/tablets that the app no longer works with. I can't tell.

I primarly use dropbox to transfer from my comp's files over to my tablet,a Samsung Galaxy S 4, it is completely free and you can also back up videos, short ones too, but if you rather have them on youtube, then it saves you the major hassle of it.
For apps if they are on google play, do not worry about that :)

I am encountering the same "doesn't work" situation using Smart Switch. I have a new Tab S8+ and wish to transfer apps and data from "old" Tab S. Smart Switch was the recommended device. The error I get, using USB cords as directed, is the fact the screen continually shows "connect to new machine," even though I have the USB connected to both Tab S and Tab S8+.

Does anyone know if there is a special cord required for Smart Switch to properly function?

I have used dropbox on my PC, but have not tried it on my tablets. Does it work as smoothly for tablet-to-tablet as it does for PC-to-PC?

Thank
