Help Strange randomly occurring notification sound?

I was wondering if anyone could help me in regards to a notification sound that seems to play at irregular intervals? It only happens when I have my phone on the sound mode, and I can't seem to find anywhere online that shows the same noise, or anything that resembles it. I've attached the file - there will be a regular keyboard tap and then the notification sound - it's three little 'tap' noises, two at the same pitch then one slightly lower.
It occurs whether I have my GPS on or off, and it has nothing to do with the NFC/Sync settings, as they are both off.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hmmm.... I know this sound from somewhere. Maybe I'm dreaming this but could it be from a messaging app when one of your contacts goes online/offline or changes their status?

That's not a bad idea. I've got WhatsApp and Messenger Lite on my phone which may be it? I'm not sure, I'll look into it.

It doesn't seem to be Whatsapp.

I finally figured out what the 3 random dings were. it sounds like an NBC tone. It would happen at very odd times. I had all notifications off and it would still happen. I have a local NBC affiliate weather app and even though I had system notification settings off for that app, it had separate settings with the app itself. Once I turned the notifications off directly on that app, it quit making the noise. They were actually weather notifications like lighting in your area, or extreme heat today. But since I was not receiving pop up notifications, I did not know which app the sound was coming from. I have been 3 months without the noise.
