Help Artists "Unknown" on phone music player

Hey Guys,

I know this is a frequent question but I've been trying to find a relevant question + answer for ages and nothing I've found seems to solve it.

My Oneplus 3 doesn't recognise half the music artists I transfer on to it (While some are recognised, most aren't). I am moving songs from my PC and have checked using mp3tag that the relevant details for every song are there before copying, I've checked the file details (right click, properties) after they've been copied to my phone using my PC file Explorer and it even says the artists name!

Yet when I play the music on my phone it's all "Unknown artist" . I've tried using my actual phones file Explorer to change the name too but this doesn't work either. Whats confusing is that it sometimes will recognise the artist in 2 or 3 songs from an album but not the rest.

Obviously it's not the end of the world its just very annoying trying to find the song you want by scrolling through 8,000 songs in alphabetical order.

I've ran into this issue myself and never really found a solution. Sometimes different players will do a better job of picking up the id3 info than others, some mix albums up. Very frustrating.

Eventually i ended up clearing the music from my device and uploading the albums I wanted to my play account and then downloading them for offline play. Not a great solution for you considering your 8k of music tracks tho.

Check a few of the "unknown artist" songs in your mp3tag. Depending on what app you are using as your music player, it may be just looking at the "album artist" tag instead of the "artist" tag, or vice versa.

I'm using PowerAmp for my music player, and it picks up the Artist tag without problems. It also allows you to choose via a number of other options: All Songs (i.e. Titles), Albums, Artists, Genres, Playlists, Top Rated, Recently Added (by date), or Queue. With Queue, you can add a bunch of songs to the to-be-played list, sort of a temporary playlist.
