And yes, most of my bookmarks are in Chrome. The ones that are in Samsung Internet I'm trying to copy to Chrome in the middle of everything else.

So to anyone who thinks I'm confusing the two drives: why do you ask?

The reason why you're asked is that some file explorers will show the internal storage with an SD icon.

Personally, I've never seen a 32gb S5, so I can only be sure of mine. There are over 40 variations of the S5.

You should be using the MSD card to store your personal music, photo, video, and document files.

While I have all my e-book files stored on my MSD, depending on which reader app you use, it may create a duplicate file on the internal storage, in order to access it. (I use Aldiko, which does.)

If you're worried about something being lost, during a reset, take a screenshot of what you have, as a reminder and reference to use after the reset.

I AM using the SD card to store these files, except for videos, of which I don't have any.

That's why it's so disconcerting to see that space taken up on my internal drive (which is 16GB - sorry, my mistake). That file copying I'm doing is from my SD card to a thumb drive, so that the music will be safe in case I delete the stuff on the internal drive and the files on the SD card disappear with it. IOW I'm backing up my music to a thumb drive.

If after I put back the SD card after a factory reset, is there any way to prevent Marshmallow from creating duplicate files once more on the internal drive?

And while (Not So) Smart Manager says that over 29GB of audio files are gunking it up (and invites me to blow those files to kingdom come), the fact is that SOMETHING is gunking it up. Next time I'm in the Internet café I can open the phone drive and look at the files.

Meanwhile I'd like to ask, if these ballooning files are because Marshmallow has copied something off the SD card, how can I prevent it from doing the same next time?

And if the gunking up is from the copious data on Chrome - the bookmarks - how do I get the bookmarks off the internal drive and onto some other kind of storage?

Hi, I'm not sure that Marshmallow is at the root of your problem, it certainly doesn't do this to my phone, nor have I heard of any other cases. Phil

Quite frankly I've never heard of Marshmallow 6.x doing anything like that, and I've had two different phones with Marshmallow on them.Although these days, I'm on Oreo 8.1.

Try a different browser? I usually use Naked Browser, much less bloated than Chrome, fast as well.

Marshmallo shouldn't duplicate your files. If anything is duplicating your files you should look to whatever app you're using to open the files.
