Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file

I recently transferred everything from my old S8 to my new S10 using SmartSwitch. All my music was on the SD card of my old phone and I moved to a new sd card (bought separately) on the new phone. I drag-n-dropped some new tracks i got to my new phone's sd card. However when I try to play them i get "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio". I'm using Samsung Music. It's frustrating cuz the files that apparently can't be played are mp3 & m4a. I have plenty of other songs that are either both formats that the app plays with no problem at all, and now all of a sudden it can't play this kind of file??? To make it weirder a couple of the tracks started playing when i pressed it then cut off after 15secs in the song and i recieve the same message "Sorry, the player d....". Help me, someone! Please.

This does sound odd, those are pretty common file types. Perhaps there's just a temporary glitch occurring, have you tried Clearing cache of the Samsung Music app?
And since it sounds like you're just setting up this S10, are there any relevant options in the Samsung Music app's Settings menu?
Have you tried installing a different, third-party media player app and does it also have a problem with just some of your content but works OK with the rest?

Exactly my thoughts: it seems weird that the Samsung app wouldn't support m4a, impossible that it wouldn't support mp3, so I'd try a different app and see whether it also had problems.

Starting to play and then failing makes me wonder whether a file has been corrupted. Have you still got the original card? Do you have a problem with any of the files on that? And where did you buy the new card from, and especially was it cheaper than normal? When someone says they have a new card but are having problems with files they copied to it I can't help wonder whether the card is the problem, and in particular whether you might have bought a fake (a smaller-capacity card reprogrammed to appear to be larger than it really is). There are a lot of those for sale in some places, they even sometimes get into legitimate supply lines, and once you exceed their real capacity files start getting overwritten and corrupted. And that might explain what you have described.

I tried installing other media player apps. Two of them at least. Still unable to play those same files. Clearing the cache; does that mean erasing tracks, or clearing the 'next up' to be played?

Clearing the cache means going into Settings > Apps, finding the player app and selecting "clear cache". Almost all apps store a "cache" of temporary files or data, and sometimes there can be something messed-up in there that causes problems. It's a harmless thing to do, though the fact that a different player has trouble with the same files also makes it clear that this is not the problem here.

I'm afraid that it sounds increasingly likely that those files are damaged.

If you use the 'My Files' app, the Samsung file manager, to look at those problematic files, do they appear different than the working music files as far as their properties?
When using Smart Switch, did you transfer your files directly from phone to phone, or did you back up to a computer and transfer from there? Did you use a USB cable or WiFi to do the transfer?
Try re-copying your music library onto your S10 again, it sounds like the initial transfer process might have failed in some way. Did you see any error messages pop up previously?

It's funny u say that. I hooked the new phone to my laptop (via USB) then tried to see if my computer can play the tracks at least

Funny u say that. I connected the new phone to my computer and tried to see if the music files would play on my windows 10. The files wouldn't play on there either. Turns out it was the MICRO SD CARD that was the problem. It was some generic brand (I forgot the name). I got a regular SanDisk sd card & everything works now. THank you all for your input. Also sorry for the year+ late reply lol.
