I'm inclined to believe it was a corrupted update executable file...
Reinstall Windows? Just a guess, otherwise no idea as I've not used that OS since Vista.👎
I'm full Linux here and I'm taking a SWAG but my first impression is a corrupt install

Got it back from the p.c. shop a bit ago, I will blame them though, to be on the safest side of the river.

Option 1: Use Control Panel Directly
- Press Windows + R to open the Run dialog.
- Type control and press Enter to open the Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, set View by: Large icons (top right).
- Look for Network and Sharing Center — it should appear there.
Option 2: Access via Run Command
- Press Windows + R.
- Type this command and press Enter:

Option 3: Restore via System Settings
Sometimes updates or system tweaks hide legacy panels. Try this:- Open Settings → Network & Internet.
- Scroll down and click Network and Sharing Center under Advanced network settings (if available).
- If not visible, click Status → Change adapter options — this opens the old-style Network Connections window.
I had a quite strange internet related problem this morning. I found that my chrome browser wouldn't connect to AF with the site not found message. I naturally guessed the site was down again. But then I found that most all of my bookmarked sites were also not accessible. As a matter of fact, the only sites I could access were fb, YT, and Amazon. Everything else would fail. Some sites left a not found err and others left a err_NETWORK_CHANGED err. I tried my Firefox browser and had the same results. I did a speed test and disabled my ad blocker. I checked to see if there were any firewall changes locally. I flushed my cache. I rebooted the router. I did all the things that a dumbass carpenter knows to do without a fix. For the life of me, I still don't know why I could access the three mega sites and nothing else. I tried AF one last time and I immediately logged on. I could log onto all sites. WTF??????
I hope that the problem is solved but I fear it isn't. I did nothing that solved the problem before it was solved. If I'm away from AF for a given length of time, I'm down and out again without a clue.

Good for you that you could not log in. For the past few days whenever I clicked on the site, Eset blocked the site, and screamed Trojan !
It was injected via Java Script according to my protection.
Chrome got the same reaction as did pulling the site up from a internet search.
Just now the site came up from my shortcut, pretty sure that means the trojan has been removed.
I have been using Eset for many years now and trust it completely. I used to do some protection work for a site and one day I caught a Russian spy there. He was using some trick Java code and when I followed his trail back to Russia I got infected with a bad virus that I had to format my machine twice to get rid of it !
Beware strangers bearing gifts ....

Wow, I got the message that the domain name had expired. I'm glad whatever was broken got fixed!
