NFL 2026

The season kicks off tonight!! The game will be aired on a number of streaming services as well as NBC with the kickoff around 8:20 PM Eastern. The game will see the Patriots visiting the Seahawks. The Seahawks are favored by 3.5 points as I type. That's basically home field edge. I'll be rooting for the Pats who I think will have no trouble beating the Hawks. Let the games begin! Are we ready for some football... hell yes!

Tonight, for the fortunate, there is a NFL game on. The 49rs are visiting the Rams. It looks to be only on streaming services. Netflix, NFL+, and Sling TV seem to be the viewing options. I'll be out of the loop and watching some baseball.
 
The first week of NFL games are in the book. I was surprised at some of the games and elated with others. Football is a fun game to watch. It has the right amount of drama and pace that makes it very entertaining to me. I love baseball, but you need to be a lover of the game to enjoy the slower pace of the game. I was ready for some football.
I root for the Steelers and the Chiefs. Both teams won this week which is good. With the pay per view football these days, I didn't get to watch the Steelers. I did watch the Chiefs last night. They hosted the Broncos who for some crazy reason couldn't seem to execute their game plan. I do think they will be a contender for post season but they sure didn't look like it last night. I'd like to think the Chiefs' D had something to do with them looking so bad. I'm forever the optimist. :)
 
I have been a Chiefs fan from the very beginning of the franchise. As a dedicated fan, I'm not blind to the no calls and timely calls that seem to favor the team. It didn't seem that way at all before the Mahomes era. I am a big Steelers fan and the calls seem to go against them more often than not. I don't think the calls are skewed to favor any team.
If you watch any game on the outside edge of the ball movement you will see holding. It can be called on every play. It is that penalty that is or isn't called that often changes the outcome of the game. If they could figure out how to police that correctly, it would go a long ways towards trashing the favoritism theories. With all that said... that skit above is flat out funny!!
 
I just wanted to point out, the controversial down by contact call in OT between the Chiefs hosting the Colts eventually went against the Chiefs. Sort of refreshing... right? I think that call goes to the home team in most cases. The Chiefs won in spite of the call so I was happy. The Colts played well at Arrowhead. I think they would have won that game if played at Lucas Oil.

That was a weird call / play. If I understand it correctly, I think replay got it wrong. If I understand correctly, the call on the field was a fumble, which was reversed because replay showed he was contacted after the catch but before he got up for the second effort so was down by contact. I didn't see anything "conclusive" that determined that so my understanding of the replay rule is that the call on the field should have stood. I still think replay should be limited to the 50 drunks in a bar standard. Just clean up the obvious stuff that everyone on TV sees. Do it in 30 seconds or less and move on.
