Gboard sneaking in again

I downloaded Fossify keyboard and checked that instead. Next thing I know it somehow went back to that crap. I switched once more, and cleared cache as well as data for both. What can I do to prevent that from recurring?

You can uninstall Gboard and reinstall if you want it back down the road

or simply make Fossify default

Shizuku + Canta and you can uninstall anything.

But that doesn't mean you should, removing system apps (which Gboard is) can break stuff and make you wish you had left it alone.

Canta does have tags for the various apps that advise potential risks of removing them.
Unless you are talking about turning off the bg mobile data underneath each app to function. That is the only time of where you can toggle but pretty much, that has been the golden rule of my thumb.

Shizuku is necessary for Canta to run. It's a way to shut down apps that suck without actually rooting. I would of course prefer rooting but given what seems to be tremendous difficulty with that, I suppose ir's about second best.

shizuku is similar to having superuser or root in certain instances.

the above combination basically works like a work profile, and uninstalling undeaireable apps from the users profile

one of the more interesting things i have seen now is that shizuku can allow the use of a non root firewall app without the need of using the VPN service on a device

this leaves the option open so that you can run a VPN and a firewall at the same time.

a firewall can still be very useful for controlling internet access for undesireable apps if they absolutely cannot be eliminated altogether

Puppykickr, it's good to see you here again. I was wondering when we would. It's not always fun having to use someone else's phone, especially if the people aren't on the same wavelength. For example, there are evidently many who have no problem with goo, or think that's the case. If only they knew...but if somebody wants to use location, maps, microphone, etc., I guess that's the way it has to be. On my own, I would have a rooted device as completely under my control as possible. Meanwhile, I have had an interesting experience with the old (1 tb) v. new (256 gb) sd card. They're both Sandisk, the former made in China, the latter Malaysia. When I put the old card in the new phone (Moto G 2026) it showed up and I was glad to have my 758 gb back, but then it started acting weird. It shut down completely twice without being asked and took a long time to reboot. Also, it gave me grief when I tried to copy files to sd. It kept hanging up and I had to make it copy again and merge. When I opened ReadEra to check on new files, it claimed that all or nearly were new. I ended up removing the old card and putting in the new. It too was recognized and required no formatting. Since then the Moto G 2026 seems to be running ptetty stably. If it weren't for the dirty tricks that cricket has pulled, I would probably be satisfied with this borrowed phone.

there may be something wrong with the card, but its probably because the card is so full.

a cheaper device can have issues with a larger card

my Moto Power (2022) is really slowing down now that the 512GB card is getting full

a slow bootup is what i believe happens when the device has not been powered off for a long while, or because every so many boots it will perform a more intense boot.

remember that when you reboot a device, caches get cleared.

also i think booting can take longer when the device is searching for something that may not be there anymore

there is no telling what system apps may call for a Google app that we have eliminated.

just calling for it does not mean that it is nefarious, i imagine that this may be the way that any app is awakened upon booting

are you still on telegram?

I'm glad you asked. The answer is yes and no. I am indeed on, but because of this different phone number I have been unable to restore my original account. I have to figure out a way to do that but because I've been busy dealing with alligators the swamp is going pretty much undrained these days. They did send a secret code but I have been unable to find it. If I could somehow contact them directly, maybe I could fix the situation. Meanwhile, if I could restore the material you've sent me, it would be more than a blessing.
