Trying To Copy Pictures From Laptop To Samsung S23

I have the Samsung S23 connected to my Win 10 laptop computer via the USB cable. I want to copy some pictures from the laptop to use with "Contacts" on the cellphone. It was very simple to do with my old cell phone: it would connect and then I would just use windows file explorer to copy the pictures and files from/to the cell phone/computer in either direction. But I don't get file explorer opening here. There's a screen open at the top says "Search file names, types and dates"but it doesn't let me go to the windows folder with my pictures. It only allows "Gallery" which has only one picture which was taken with the laptop camera. I can't access any other folder. Selecting "This PC" I still don't get my folders on my C-disk, which is where I have my folder with pictures. It seems locked in to some predetermined strict selection of only a file named "Pictures".

On the cellphone USB Settings I have "USB Controlled By -> This Device" and "Use USB for -> Transferring files /Android Auto". I tried selecting "Transferring Images" but that brought up a screen on the computer "Import photos from Galaxy" - right now I'm trying to go the other way now, from computer to cellphone. And it says this gives permission to Microsoft Photos to access and import photos. Even another time when I'll want to go in that direction I don't want microsoft collecting my picturesD

There is a "One Drive" selection which seems to require a microsoft account, and a ONe Drive data collection policy; I don't know what those are.

Is there no way to get this to work the simple way it used to?

I just disable one drive altogether on my p.c., it is set to just leave my photos as is on my comp, it is total hell this is like the google photos app, I just plug mine in via usb chord and do the Media transfer protocall over it ans itshows up all my photos too, right about now, my cell has more then plentful of photos need to move to my p.c., but I will wait until later on this morning, since it is a bothersome to me to see anything above 1,000 photos, I need to drop them on my p.c. and probably erase some of my art collections too.. Sometimes it is total easy and othertimes when you are under stress it seems much faster then the protocall is, really it should pop up a window on your windows 10 of your devices and then you can move your photos on it too.

That should work either way, I did it a million times in the past as welll..

there is an app on F-droid called NitroShare.

you install it on both devices, and ot allows transfer of files over a common wi-fi connection

basically you use it similar to a file manager to move files
