    Lately...

I worry though if you depend on Windows 10, on October 2025, it's supposed to be EOL. Windows 10 often activates on a digital license, and really depends on the internet and 'cloud' so I would be concerned that it would get remotely killed and/or you got pop-ups saying 'Support is ending please...

Movies You *Won't* Watch Again ...

Oh god the Columbia TC-8 carts. I hate those things. Guaranteed to break at the splice or be unspooled while other wise playing. Lost a great Glen Campbell one that way. Now I just get TC-8s for parts. TC-8s were later releases made in the early 1980s and made extremely cheap. Often a lot of...

Most of the reasons you'd root are built-in today (well, not CPU overclocking, but I digress) and then there's the whole SafetyNet and Secure Boot issues, plus the fact most still want to use their banking apps which break with root. There are still custom ROMs that don't depend on being rooted...

    Heartbroken

No, the problem was that no drug nor talking to a stranger can replace the connection to someone you love and will never see again. If that worked, then alcohol would solve more problems than it causes. Deer being close to humans in this area is as rare as winning the lottery. The chances of me...

Movies You *Won't* Watch Again ...

The '70s were full of earth tones, wood grain, avacado and harvest gold appliances, lovely John Denver and Carpenter's songs, and that just goes so well with someone like myself who loves deer, the forest, and cabins. Then there's unique tech like flip clocks and those 'fake digital' clocks...

The "I'm so old" thread game

    I'm so old I still know what a 12BA6, 6BQ6 and 3BA6 are.

    Lately...

I'm guessing you're using Windows 10? Pity. I can't stand anything after 7 and went to great efforts to stay on 7 and below. Tech has become stagnant and boring and there's nothing I'd consider an upgrade anywhere. Everything offered has far less features than any of the tech I use, including...

    Bypassing Do Not Disturb

OP wants favorite contacts to go through, but is getting notified of all incoming calls/texts instead of favorites.

    no device specific forums anymore?

I think maintaining device-specific forums and dealing with their obsolescence would be daunting, given new Android-devices and models launch every year or so. To say nothing of the mess known as the A-series Samsung line. I would still like a 'retro' sub-forum, and the older phone discussions...

Wow not too far from me. My TVs are all ~ 2009-14 (newest is the patio TV, a 32" Magnavox from 2014) all dumb TVs with the 'smarts' being external devices plugged into them that also don't go past 2014 (Apple TV 2nd Gen, Launch Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii-U, Nexus Player, Apple TV 3rd Gen...

    Bypassing Do Not Disturb

Probably a similar bug that messed up 'in pocket protection' that's supposed to stop the screen from taking taps if it gets woken up in your pocket--my S20 FE bugged out after Android 12/OneUI 4 where that feature no longer did anything. Try the Bixby routine though--that's how I worked around...

I'm just glad I found out about the possible name change to the 'Daily.net' before I typed in 'www.androidforums.com' one day to get a 404 error and not knowing where it got redirected to and no way to personally contact individual members!

    Bypassing Do Not Disturb

BTW are you getting sound with these unwanted contacts bypassing DND or just the notification icons? Because in my experience, DND won't stop the notifications from showing up on the AOD or displaying in the status bar. It just mutes the sound. If you're using an S22, a workaround is using Bixby...

Sub-forum descriptions are hilariously out of date

Just in the TV/Video section it's both nostalgic as well as funny: "Android TV, along with the Nexus Player, will inevitably revolutionize television just as iTunes revolutionized music and Android revolutionized smartphones. Find all the Android TV news and info your heart desires from the...

There should be a listing at the bottom. For example, where the 'theme' option is, there's a directory of, for this thread, "Featured Forums > AF community > Suggestions & Feedback". Check the directory when you're in those old posts.

use the search. the index no longer displays them but searching a post from one would bring it up. Some of the rather old forum descriptions being visible is both funny and make for some great nostalgia. According to the TV/Video area, the Nexus Player is where it's at!

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

I never got smart switch to work. It's like Wifi direct transferring files. when it works, it's excellent. But often it fails for seemingly no reason. I always save my contacts locally myself, but then I only have like 5, work contacts, my girlfriend, my family. I still know their numbers by...

    Heartbroken

Daisy saved me. I was already going through a few years long depression after another deer I loved died (Suzie in 2005) and was on the brink of suicide as I was that down. No medicine nor any therapy worked (it's all a load of bull cookies). It was almost pre-ordained that another deer lover...

    no device specific forums anymore?

From what I remember and see here, most of the device forums haven't been updated to reflect much after the Galaxy S4 or HTC One M8. Tons of them are very outdated and haven't had many new posts for years, save for a few that are from folks like me who love their old stuff. I don't post to them...

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

I only knew one other who had a S6 that was last active in 2020. It was shattered all to heck but still going. The owner had the GSM (AT&T/T-mobile) variant which had none of the performance and battery issues that the CDMA/LTE variant had. The LTE/CDMA variants had exynos processors that didn't...

Movies You *Won't* Watch Again ...

Don't knock physical media. No internet needed, zero buffering or app updates needed, no subscription $$, no edited or 'censored' content, no compression artifacts, and best of all, no vanishing library. I seriously grew tired of having never been able to finish most of the shows I started...

    Post Your Last Purchase

Oddly enough, during the COVID panic of March 2020 there were photos of folks at Walmart dressed as plague doctors (face coverings required) as well as some wearing fake Santa beards, to even 'maxi masks'. The mental image you have of Olbriar wouldn't have been too far off!

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

Just be mindful the A-series are all plastic (some use 'glasstic' which is plastic that feels like glass/metal) so a heat gun will likely melt it.

    Health and walking apps..

Actually, Samsung Health works on any phone, not just Samsung. You can pair a Samsung watch with a non-Samsung phone as well (but you lose the SMS and E-mail apps on the watch). I had it installed on a Moto G Stylus, and a TCL A3X. You won't get the advanced sleep coaching even if you use a...
