Moat malware and viruses are unknowingly downloaded from unsecure websites or links (sometimes links in email or junk texts that masquerade as legitimate). App stores are generally clean, though I don't know enough about F-Droid to hazard a guess.

I can think of a few possibilities. One is that the battery is going bad. Two is that the app is for some reason misreading the actual battery state. Three is that something is hindering the shutdown process so it is actually just going to sleep. Viruses or malware could account for either of...

Help me understand: when you say "powered down" do you mean it's just closed and asleep, or did you actually go through the steps to completely shut it down?
