Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

The battery would likely die long before app support would. Sadly the batteries in both the S6 and A-series ain't replaceable so they're designed to be disposed of. That's the real dealbreaker for me. However, they can be capable of lasting a decade if you treat them well enough (avoid heat...

    Heartbroken

This isn't the place for debate, but you can be assured that plants have no central nervous system and don't feel pain. Anyone using the 'plants tho' argument honestly doesn't believe it themselves as I highly doubt they look at chopping a head of lettuce the same way they'd look at someone...

Oh they have fall alerts too? I thought it was just crash detection

    Lately...

They're not new to me (I have used them since late 2009--an iPhone 3GS was my first, but I regret never having the Nokia N95 when it was a thing :( ) But I've reached the age in my life where I just don't care about the latest and greatest (especially when they're functional downgrades anyway)...

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

Also worth mentioning, if software updates are something you crave, the A-series is supposed to get at least two major Android version upgrades while flagships (S-series, Notes if they still exist) get three-four. Even the Galaxy A01 got Android 12 despite having 2GB RAM and a pathetic CPU.

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

I don't hate them, they're just not for me. But those differences are there; you might prefer them but I just kept it objective as much as possible. The jump from an S6 to an A-series is still quite large. But anything is an upgrade from the S6.

Anyone went from an s6 to a53?

I didn't jump directly from those two models but I did try an S20 FE 5G and A13 5G from a Thunderbolt and S4 Mini for a time, so there's a lot of differences there. There's tons more notifications and many of them insignificant but ALL of them make sound. ALL of them, from 'configuration...

Legacy Update, is now a thing

These days Linux and Nvidia are the bad relationship. If your GPU has Nvidia on it forget Linux entirely. Odd how the turn tables... I only use Linux on two machines. The one mentioned gaming rig that outright refused to accept my favorite OS which is Windows 7, plus gaming support no longer...

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

It didn't work. That's the point. Their algorithm was messed up. If I went by their recommendations I'd be actually in worse shape. Sometimes it's best to just live life and not worry about so much. My sleep scores were averaging in the 30s-60s. That's rated 'poor' and didn't reflect reality...

    Lately...

Yet another reason never to update your apps. many of those 'updates' to apps such as QuickPic Gallery, Es File Explorer and CCleaner were their 'cheetah-fication' updates. While the dev no longer shows up on Play Store, the apps and many, many clones by alternate developers that probably work...

    Heartbroken

I lost Daisy 10 years ago. It doesn't feel like ten years. 2010 still feels like yesterday or last week to me. (probably doesn't help that's the era of tech that I use, and it still feels new) well, it will be ten years as of April this year. Ironically enough, that was the very time in 2013...

outlook app on android nearly useless

I always use the built in Android email client instead of the dedicated app. I hate the UI of Outlook and its stupid mobile focus. Heck, these days I'd just use the browser entirely vs. an app.

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

It is supposed to only detect A-fib and alert you (but you have to do it manually) which is akin to the Apple Watch's feature. I never got it to work at all since my heart rate is high (I've been tested and they assured me it's normal for my metabolism) and usually sticks around 90 bpm resting...

Legacy Update, is now a thing

Linux games fine if you use ProtonDB. Steam includes it by default and all the games except one (Flight Simulator 2020) work. In fact I'd dare say they work better than in Windows. All mods working too, from Fallout 4 to Subnautica. The one reason my gaming rig runs Linux (Ubuntu Gamepack) is...

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

Despite that, Hadron, the Apple Watch (and Galaxy Watch) get away with false fall detection triggers all the time. Use a hammer, swat a fly, clap your hands, it thinks you fell and if you don't dismiss it quick enough it dials 911 or your emergency contact. The justification from both Apple and...

    Heartbroken

I also don't advocate feeding carnivore pets a vegan diet (and that's made me quite unpopular in many vegan areas online and offline) either and I justify it the same way one would if they were a vegan working or running a big cat rescue/sanctuary. You wouldn't be able to justify forcing a vegan...

Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

The last few 'AI Bots' scamming message I had was a year or two ago and it was MMS spam. They showed up as email addresses but equally badly formatted but they were being sent as MMS messages. LWP might be having a similar issue that Xwidget did. Has your phone gotten Android 12+? When an S20...

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

I still think a few folks remain who expect smartphones to just become watches and **shudder** skin implants/augmented brain implants like something out of that reboot of Total Recall (the 'hand phone') The whole smartwatch novelty wore off long ago for me and I am happier with my mechanical...

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

Samsung has the Galaxy Watch 4 (and I'm sure others have launched since) that had hardware for BP and ECG but only recently have only allowed ECG in US. The hardware exists but the government blocks any software from accessing it and it's been held up in court for a long time. The only...

Movies You *Won't* Watch Again ...

The odd theme lately is a lot of 'reboots' bomb from user reviews at Rotten Tomatoes but the critic score is always 98%+. What on earth are they smoking?! I like to believe that Knight Rider 2008 was a bad dream and never really happened. Marvel is a mess. They've recently started ret-conning...

Legacy Update, is now a thing

I go out of my way to disable updates so I don't even care. Heck one of the updates that were already installed on my Dell running Windows 7 kept making DWM.exe repeatedly crash and mess with Aero. Had to uninstall it to fix it. BTW Why is Windows 7 even still getting updates? Wasn't it EOL in...

    HELP! SMILEY FACE ICON

I tried looking up the Roblox icon for notifications and it has no face, just a weird interpretation of the letter 'R'. Lego has no app that produces notitifcations I could find. Am I just getting old though or is it just odd that OP and others here care about what notifications are on their...

Blood Pressure and Heart monitors on smartphones in the United States

I personally don't care. Back when Samsung Health and their smartwatches peaked, (2018+) all the data did was increase my stress level and disrupt my sleep (didn't help that it thought my normal sleep time of 10 hours was 'poor' while a crappy night's sleep of 4 hours was considered 'good') so...
