Is there and app or whatever i can use to access my apps. when i am plugged into my desktop?

When viewing recent call list. It will show all messages as well from each caller or texted. I know i can change the setting to only show the calls. BUT it does not stay "defaulted" persay. It will occassionally default to calls & messages. Any ideas why?
