    Help Google Keyboard

On turning on my phone just now, I saw a notification that several apps were being automatically updated but thought nothing of it as this is quite a frequent occurrence. When I then opened Facebook and began to type a reply to someone's post, I found a horrible new keyboard! Being quite happy...

    An interesting thing

Today, we were looking round a 16th Century National Trust building where I was taking the occasional picture, then turning off the phone until the next opportunity came along. At one point, I turned on the phone (camera was already selected) and noticed that the picture was just a series of...

Accessories Very hot charger when used in foreign parts

Just returned from a short holiday in Germany where, of course, I had occasion to re-charge my phone. However, I noticed on each occasion that the charger became really hot; far hotter than it does at home. Upon return, and re-charging again, its temperature was much lower and at the level it...

Help GPS on constantly according to battery meter

I have a small problem that I hope someone may be able to help me with. When looking at 'History details' under the battery meter, I find that there is a solid blue line after 'GPS on' which remains despite my turning off 'Location' and even when WiFi is off and the phone in standby. In fact...

    Still on 4.4.4

Android 5.1 has been available for some time now and I'm sure that many, if not most, Nexus 5 owners have 'updated' by now. I am still using 4.4.4 which I find is perfectly adequate for all of my needs and see no purpose in downloading (5.0.1, then) 5.1. Is there any disadvantage to remaining...

    Help Unknown battery use

What is this 'com.android.chrome:sand...' that appears to be using 15% of my battery recently, and how can I stop it? (Second highest - 'Screen' is highest at 29%).

    Help Phone self-rebooted

Whilst reading the Daily Mail online newspaper app this morning my phone screen suddenly went black without warning. Then appeared the four coloured dancing dots and the phone re-started. I did nothing to cause this, and I'm not sure whether it was the app that caused the crash or a faulty...

    Time signal interference?

I have noticed recently an interesting phenomenon. I would usually leave my Nexus 5 on my bedside table overnight adjacent to my radio-controlled watch, which picks up the DCF77 signal from Frankfurt (at 77.5 kHz). I discovered that, in these circumstances, my watch fails to receive the time...

Very slow opening files saved in Drive

Suddenly, I am finding that opening files in Drive is taking much longer that it ever did - over a minute is usual now. These are files such as: docx and jpg. I have tried re-booting, but the problem remains. Any help would be appreciated.

    Strange clock behaviour

When I woke up this morning and looked at my phone, it showed the time as 6:39 whereas the real time was 7:51. I've never seen this before. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon? Any ideas of the cause? After I re-booted, the clock seemed to re-set itself correctly.

    Help Toggle wi-fi on/off

I have installed a widget on my home screen for quickly turning on/off mobile data and keep this turned off whilst at home. As far as I can tell, this came with Battery Guru. I'd also like a similar widget for quickly turning on/off wi-fi connection. I can, of course, do this under...

Help Removing app - HP Print Service Plugin

I see that I have an app called 'HP Print Service Plugin' on my Nexus 5. I don't have an HP printer and I have no intention of buying one. I want to remove the app, but it won't go! I have removed one or two other apps that I don't want - easy: just tap the X, but this one insists that I want...

    Help Video calls

Hi I apologise for posting this question if it's already been answered, but I did a search and found nothing in the Nexus 5 forum about video calls. My wife has an iPhone4S and the facility for making video phone calls is, apparently, built in. Searching the internet, I found this (rather...
