Did do a settings reset before the app deletion.

You are a genius. Exactly. I had installed a QR Scanner from the Play Store and it forced an app. "Scan Now". Reset phone settings ----> no help. Uninstalled the scan app and the GUI was 90% better. Had to do some rearranging of icons, but the phone is now back to "normal". Thank you.

When an event is entered in the calendar, it goes to gmail then gmail and the phonE remind me. Snooped around and saw how to stop gmail from sending reminders to the phone, but cannot find where to stop the S5 from sending the event to gmail or the on line calendar.
