Is there a way to view incoming texts while playing a game with out the game having to reload? I know you can hold the home button and it shows recent apps but after I reply to the text and I hit back to return to the game it acts like I reopened it

I rooted my x2 and a friend took it and updated the software... I still have the superuser app but i used the root checker app and it says I don't have root access how can I return it to normal without it getting bricked
