motorola moto g4 plus

I have a Motorola G4Plus, and a Macbook Pro using el Capitan 10.11.6. The phone and laptop do pair using bluetooth and the screen on my laptop says they are connected for a few seconds then connection is lost. Batteries are strong and devices are in close proximity. Driving me nuts. Any ideas?

I am looking to root my new G4 plus. I have never rooted anything before. I just wondered, are there any drawbacks to rooting? I imagine things like automatic updates could be a problem.

Recent screens cards button. After a bit of use of phone touching this button displays only "recent screens appear here". No changes to settings that I can find fix the problem but restarting the phone brings back all the recent screens for a while. Then same again. What best solution? I like...
