I just got the HTC Droid Eris from Verizon. I switched over from AT&T because their service was so horrible, and overall I am very satisfied - except for one pretty major issue. I am aware that SMS messages are, by definition, limited to 160 characters - I get that, fine. Realistically, though, there are a lot of of times when text messages need to go over that length (and when calling the person instead is not an option). I also have no problem with being charged for additional messages when I go over the character limit. The issue is this: anytime I send a text longer than 160 characters to a non-Verizon subscriber (which a good number of my contacts are), they only get the first 160 characters of that message - not multiple shorter messages, but only 160 characters and then everything else gets deleted and they never see it. This is pretty huge, considering that AT&T and every other phone carrier I have ever been with automatically segments longer messages as needed regardless of what service the receiver has. Having to keep count of my characters or convert to MMS every time I don't want a chunk of my message to simply disappear into thin air is plain ridiculous, especially when this is obviously a non-issue for others. Is there an Android app that will do what Verizon for some strange reason cannot, and divide up long texts into 160-character pieces to be sent as separate message so that the whole message will actually go through regardless of the receiver's cell phone provider?
