Help 2.1 for Galaxy Portal?

AndyBoot

Newbie
Hi All,

I've just recently purchased a Galaxy Portal for my girlfriend from ebay, it's currently in the post. I have a feeling it comes with Android 1.5.

I personally have the HTC Hero and the 2.1 update has only just been rolled out to its users within the past month or so via OTA. My phone is rooted and have the option of installing many custom ROMs available out there.

So first things first... How do I update the Samsung to 2.1 without having to take it a "Samsung Partner".
And secondly... If it's not possible without doing so, is it possible to root this phone? and are there many ROMs available based on 2.1?

Many Thanks,

Andy

You need the firmware and Odin to flash it

Checkout Beerkan's threads for the whole package.. when you get it check out my Q and the replies in advance: I got some very good help from Beerkan and XplosiV

It is sometimes the little things that stop the process working :D

I have only had the phone 3 months now; I got fed up waiting for Samsung to roll out 2.1 Beekan has the best and most reliable fx out there.

all best

but following the instructions and advice closely it was breeze..

ps make sure you take out the Sim Card.. and memory card (I left mine in by accident but I seem to have come out of it unscathed there) back up your contacts/calendar/emails etc to google account.

restore afterward when you set up the google account.

follwing the installation i got access to a wealth of control of the 'old' camera, Google Sat Nav and a much better standard music player..

there's probably more to it.. but I'm pleased with just those :D

Hi there,

Theres nothing really 'wrong' with android 1.5 but some things can be laggy, like texting when the phone is on its side.

I know its a new phone, but if you do need to, theres a thread for backing up dataHere

The update process is fairly easy, but do be sure to read the advised posts carefully, and if need be, write your own checklist down, so you don't miss anything.
