2.1 Update unavalible for certain phones...

Great.

Just talked to a Google representative on their support line. Tried everything to get the update, manual, factory reset and nothing worked.

I was told that certain phones have had this problem with NOTHING working to get the update. I was told the matter would be looked into and I would be reached by 10 days.

Unbelievable.

I guess I'll add a question so this is not seen as just ranting.
has anyone else been told this?/had this problem?

Did it result in having to send back the phone for repair/replacement because Ive heard terrible things about that process.

Damn. Any help?
:(

Can't you just get an device swap from HTC? Says you can do that on the support page. I think that if the phones can get updates, then it isn't what you paid for and it should be replaced.

By device swap do you mean an exchange of phones?

Everywhere on the internet all I have read is horror stories about the process for a repair or replace for the nexus one.

The Nexus One Tech guy literally said this is an issue some people have been having with certain phones and we do not have a fix for it yet. We will get back to you in 10 days.

Some peoples phones are just not accepting the update for some reason.

What happened when you tried the manual update? What, if any, errors did you experience in the process?

Nevermind...just saw your other thread.

So, you talked to Google. I'm saying you should talk to HTC. Just Google about the warranty. The official page says HTC will send a new one, and then you send the defective one back. Make the case that something is wrong with the phone. They should replace it.

I was sent an email today by google support and they told me to do another factory reset, after all the factory resets I did last night (10+) I wont be doing that again. He said if that doesnt work it may be hardware and he reffered me to that warranty.

The way I read it, I understood it as they would be sending me another phone first before I send the faulty one back.

Can any one confirm this?

Also, My 3G works great everythign works great except the multitouch zoom. Im scared of even sending this phone away and recieving another phone that is even more flawed..

That's one option, but I believe it involves them holding a charge on your card for the price of the phone until they receive yours back, to avoid any sneaky people trying to get two-for-the-price-of-one.

The other option is to send yours first and hope they send a replacement swiftly.

Someone suggested clearing the data for the application "System Updater" and then retrying a manual update.

This is the process settings > apps > manage apps > menu button > filter > all > system updater > clear cache/data

after that I would try a manual update, can anyone confirm this? Any risks with doing this?

Just a thought, what is the current build of your phone's O/S?

The OTA update only updates ERD79 to ERE27, if you somehow got a PRE-ERD79 build (I've read someone else did) you'd not be able to update.

wait 10 days until Google contacts you back before freaking out too much... there is a rumored OTA coming again also... and if all else fails, send it back and get replacement (or get replacement then send back... )

You have tried a manual update did you? I mean the one with downloading the update to your PC and renaming it to update.zip and copy it to your phones main directory? Like the sticky on this forum says?

What build do you have?
