2.2: no ringtones for contacts?

I just got the 2.2 update for my Samsung Intercept. I was really happy after it rebooted and I found I now had 5 screens. However, I soon discovered that a bunch of my contacts were gone. I then found that this new version doesn't allow you to set up ringtones for your contacts any more. Worse, all of the contacts that I had with ringtones had been deleted! This is a huge step backwards. Did Sprint, Samsung or Google screw up the release; or are they screwing us over?

Has anyone else seen this? Is this problem on all 2.2-based phones or only the intercept?

Had the same problem loosing most of my contact. Luckily I had another phone with them so I just sent them with bluetooth. When you select a contact, click the menu button as if you want to edit. You should see an Options tab. This allows you to select specific ringtones.

For the contacts issue see this:

If you seem to be missing contacts try this: (thanks Jime2ct)

I thought I lost all of my contacts after the upgrade. I found them. Maybe it'll work for you.
Go to 'Contacts'.
Hit 'Menu'
Tap 'Display Options'
Scroll down, if you have a gmail email address listed, tap it to open it, then you should find... 'System Group: ........' Check all of those and hopefully you'll find what you're looking for.

As for the ringtones when you go to a contact don't go in to edit the contact info. Just view the contact. Hit menu and then options. Ringtone assignment is the first I believe. The second is to send all calls to voicemail from that contact. It works fine. But it is different from the Touchwiz contact apk we were all used to on 2.1.

I couldn't recover my contacts, so I had to re-enter them. But thanks for the info on the new pth to setting individual ringtones!

Ooo! I'm glad there IS a way to do ringtones. I don't have 2.2 yet, but hearing about the loss of this feature really turned me off to the update!

Hi Gregger or anyone else with the Intercept! I got this phone as a "replacement" after dropping my Samsung Moment last week. I'm really not happy with it for a number of reasons, mainly the inability to apply separate ringtones to individual contacts. I've read thru this forum thread & called Sprint tech support with no success. I do not have the "option" button on my handset so that I can assign a specific ringtone to an individual contact once I hit "menu"........I'm not sure if I have 2.2 because I just got it and the Sprint Tech that set me up advised i had everything I needed. I'd appreciate anyone's assistance.............

Go to menu>settings>about phone. If you have 2.1 then you don't have it. Your still on toucwiz. Another way to tell is do you have the notification widgets in the dropdown?

Also if the bar at the top is black, it's 2.1 and if it's gray/white, it's 2.2! :p

How do i get my ringtones to go in the drop down for the view window, its only showing android ringtones and not the ones i downloaded?

I found out how to use the contact ringtones. You have to go to myxer app, download, and save, when you save it will ask you save as....woo hoo, so happy, but still pissed off at the weak ass firmware download
