Help 2 machines with 1 remote

Hi, not really an Android question but would it be possible to use the same remote for a DVD player and a Bluray player? I just got a replacement remote for the DVD and it stopped working (quiet grinding noise and not playing disc). I switched to a Bluray player (also no remote) and want to be able to use the same remote for both. (I'm planning to get the first one fixed.)

Remotes to operate a devices often have codes to operate more than one "same" branded device. A universal remote might be an option as well.

What do I do if the two players are two different brands? Will it still work?

A universal remote is designed to operate different components of different manufacturer. They will come with a set of codes for each component by brand. Choosing which devices you wish to control with the remote is as simple as plugging in the proper code associated with the desired device. Most will also come with some codes you can try by brand just in case your specific device isn't listed.

Being a universal remote, normally there is A, B, C, etc or a DVD, PVR, Blue-ray, amp, etc button you must hit first so the remote is sending the proper codes to control the desired device.

Universal remotes are quite common and vary in price and functionality.
